Aneurysms

When blood passes through a weakened part of an artery a bulge known as an aneurysm is developed. An aneurysm can occur in any sized artery. Serious health risks can arise if the bulge of the aneurysm continues to swell because the blood vessel may rupture. This could cause fatal internal bleeding. A burst aneurysm in the head could also lead to a stroke. Although some may lead to serious problems, not all aneurysms are life threatening.

Abdominal Aorta Aneurysm (AAA) Screening

Abdominal Aorta Aneurysms usually are not symptomatic; therefore an exam of this nature can greatly improve a patient's chance of survival. In fact, the Annals of Internal Medicine have noted that in men age 65-75 there is as much as a 43% decrease in mortality when using AAA screening.

Since Medicare and most insurance companies will not pay for screening services the Acadiana Vascular Center does not file insurance claims for these tests. Each exam costs only $45, or have all three vascular screening exams done for only $99.00. A physician's order is not required to for these exams and your results will be mailed to both you and your physician.
