VenaSeal™ Closure System

VenaSeal™ system, also known as the VenaSeal™ Closure System, is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved treatment for venous insufficiency and varicose veins. The VenaSeal™ system uses a specially formulated medical adhesive to seal off and close the problematic veins, rerouting blood flow to healthier veins and alleviating symptoms associated with venous insufficiency.

The VenaSeal™ system works by delivering a small amount of medical-grade cyanoacrylate adhesive into the affected vein under ultrasound guidance. Cyanoacrylate adhesive is a biocompatible, rapidly polymerizing glue that has been used in various medical applications for several decades.

During the procedure, a healthcare professional, usually a vascular specialist or interventional radiologist, will use ultrasound imaging to locate the problematic vein. They will then numb the area and insert a small catheter into the vein. The VenaSeal™ adhesive is then carefully injected into the vein through the catheter. The adhesive rapidly polymerizes upon contact with the blood, causing the vein walls to stick together and close off.

Once the vein is closed, blood flow is immediately rerouted to healthier, functional veins, improving circulation and relieving symptoms associated with venous insufficiency. The treated vein eventually gets absorbed by the body over time.

One of the advantages of the VenaSeal™ system is that it requires fewer injections of local anesthesia compared to other vein treatment methods, such as endovenous laser ablation or radiofrequency ablation. This results in less discomfort during the procedure and a quicker recovery time. Most patients can resume normal activities shortly after the treatment.
